While living in Buenos Aires in 2007, Matí and I became friends. Years later he contacted me to record vocals on a song by his new band Palmeras Salvajes.
Little did he know, the theme of his lyrics were eerily connected to my own personal life at the time. I am an avid dreamer and a woman figure in my dreamworld had begun to reappear, chasing me, so much so that I sought out a spiritual director studied in Jungian dream interpretation to help me make sense of it all.
I was in the midst of exploring the meaning of this woman-character's presence in my dreams when unexpectedly Matí emailed asking me to sing on this song. The name is "Hipersomne", in English meaning hypersomnia or excessive sleep.
lyrics
Los días...los días.
Los días se suceden,
los días se suicidan.
Los dos...
no sabemos si correr
o quedarnos a velarlos.
Tras el hálito hipersomne
oigo tu voz, la alarma quieta.
Tal vez así suene el estrépito del fin.
Soy mi prisión y estás afuera
The days…the days
The days transpire
The days commit suicide
Neither of us
knows whether to run
Or to stay in order to watch over them
Behind the hypersomnic breath
I hear your voice, the still alarm
Perhaps that's how the uproar of the end sounds
I am my prison and you're outside
